bound in new shackles

something within me
is ready to move
there is a calmness
stillness
before a storm
              *
I breathe in deep
the cool morning air
thinking
discerning
what it is that’s
there
              *
hard to describe, really,
perhaps
like the moment before
a race where
I spend all day with
butterflies in my stomach
now at the starting line,
all my focus different
from the race
as a whole
to the finish line, complete
               *
anticipation of tomorrow
is no longer there
               *
inner peace is  taking over
my past is no longer
a burden
I’m new
today
everyday
ready to engage my new life
you may think it looks like my yesterday
                *
changes
though, sometimes the
biggest are the hardest to see
hidden to others
obvious to me

Great poem. I really like the above stanza, and the last line is an engaging one.

  2. Carol Connell Says:

I really like the title of this poem. It reminded me of a verse(Ephesians 3:1) where Paul refers to himself as “the prisoner of Jesus Christ”.

    Blessings to you,

    Carol Connell

That would seem wrong–but it’s exactly right–an indication that God has done something. You asked “What is it that’s there” and what it is, is peace. Very nice.

Larry, Carol, and Solveig… as you can tell I am deep in the bowels of the letters of Paul right now. Nothing to make you dig in than a real time look at your soul.

  5. Darren King Says:

I read this and remembered what it felt like during and just after my conversion…your lines:

    I’m new
    today
    everyday
ready to engage my new life
you may think it looks like my yesterday

    changes

    Thanks for sharing!

  6. Uncle Tree Says:

This was written from your newly calmed heart,
that much is easy to see. Well done. Bless you!

Being a slave to love is a tie that’s worth binding, Cindy.
And I do believe it’s better and easier
than carrying the weight, and the burden of the cross
on your back. J C did that for us, thank God!
There is no need to imitate His acts.

Once you know what it is that’s there,
you will feel and recognize what is also here,
because it will acknowledge your most inner parts.

Darren… my conversion seems to happen over and over and over!!!! :)

Uncle Tree… a tie worth binding, indeed!!!

Peace and care to you both!!!

“Something within me is ready to move…”

I liked that. And the artwork had that sense too, of being poised, ready, ripe with possibility.

    Cindy,

The first to stanzas of this poem really grabbed me in anticipation as if drawn into a fantasy – (like the beautiful picture)-

I have been writing daily (just not poetry) – I have been journaling on the same subject of your piece here – transformation. It is a good break from blogging, which I have been doing for over a year, but found instead of focusing on writing I began to focus on blogstats and that was cause for the break in postings. I thank you for your encouragement to post again which I am sure I will do soon.

The work that I am doing in my journal titled These Three Truths is really making me take a deeper look within.

    Blessings and keep writing -
