she always chooses me
no one else dare
I’m not too big
not too small
and I keep hot
past the morning’s fall
             *
even after coffee
left
in me she filled
lemon,
hot water
            *
her addiction is to me
and the heat
and our
fellowship
everyday
           *
she is a part of me
as I am of her
in this morning
ritual
that blesses
us both

Giving up coffee was the most agonizning thing for me to do, but giving up my favorite cup??? impossible. It awaits me in the morning like a puppy I don’t have. The hot steam still starts my day, and that cup is and always will be the best part of my kitchen. (not the one in the picture, mine has hand painted wood ducks on it!)

Cindy I do the same thing! I gave up coffee but not my cup! Now matter what I drink – the cup at least gives me some routine, some comfort. Mine is a (predictably) Elton John mug I got in Vegas. It has the lyrics to “Your Song” written on it – but I like it because of the size.

size is important… all the different ways people hold their cups, is crucial to finding the cup that is just right….

I hold my cup with both hands, never by the handle. and I cradle it between my hands as if it is an extension of who I am… silly I know, things aren’t important. But I DO love the little things in life.

oh, and by the way… I’m going to take that vacation you were pestering me (and everyone else) to take, here in a couple weeks… my cup comes with and I am SO excited. Jamie is even going to take time off this year… Yeah!!!!

Wood ducks on cups sounds cool, and hot to trot.
No coffee? I’m sorry to hear of your loss.

    God bless your animated glass!

wood ducks ARE cool!! reminds me of the the back woods where I grew up! : ) Us city dwellers have to do something to maintain our country roots… and thanks for the condolences on the coffee, it WAS like losing a friend, but we humans are more adaptable than one imagines.

Glad I’m not the only one that has a favorite cup. My favorite cup is one that we bought in Monterey a few years ago. It has a picture of a tough looking pirate on it, and underneath him are the words, “Dead, till I gets me coffee!”

often a sentiment I used to feel… I still miss the coffee, but AM glad to be feeling better, and happy to have found a healthier vice for me that still fits my cup!

Mine would be my Jack Kerouac cup….The best gift ever, stained and worn, but my constant companion…I seriously relate but ……..There will NEVER be anything but coffee in mine! Muahahahahahaha

LOL… I’m sure at some point water and alka selter tabs??? or perhaps your false teeth, that’s what my parents use theirs for!!
Never say never, or face the curse of Murphy’s Law!

stained and worn are the BEST!!!!

I could never give up coffee! I cut myself back to one cup of full flavor, but that’s all I’m willing to do!

I was a pot of coffe a day drinker until I found that it was making me sick. I thought I’d never give it up, but I’ve only snucK 2 cups in the past two months, and have to admit, I feel better. hard to admit… especially in the mornings, and late nights.

    Hi Cindy,
I’m visiting here via the RAP on High Calling Blogs.

I have 3 or 4 favorite mugs I rotate through on a weekly basis.

    I enjoyed this line:
    “and I keep hot
    past the morning’s fall”

It’s like pouring heavy cream in my coffee- not a common occurrence, but goes down really thick and rich. :)

Elk… thank you so much for stopping… and commenting… I will get over to visit your site more eventually, I promise. What I saw look fun!!

Erin… Thank you for coming over through RAP. It is nice to be included in there, next to so many great artists! when I drank coffee… i liked mine black… and then every once in a while (especially if it was an evening cup, I definately added cream). Such creatures of habit we are!

BKM!!!! …. I really love hearing from you… how are you doing? I agree… a different cup for coffee and tea are called for.. I liked a smaller, thinner one for tea!!! I did break down tonight and snuck a couple cups of coffee at work… sometimes a girls gotta do, what a girls gotta do to get through a shift! take care!!!
